The Limited Edition 2008 Chevrolet Corvette 427 C6 will see 427 units for sale in America, and another 78 shipped to the rest of the world (no coincidence the engine is a 427 (add 78), and 505 equals the 505 horsepower rating).

[The classic L88 7.0 Liter pictured above had a factory rating of 460 horsepower, but was routinely tested at about 560 h.p. by the independents.]
This LE edition comes in a new (to the Z06) red metallic tintcoat, and some graphics that are reminiscent of the 1967 427 c.i. Vettes (mainly shooting for the 67' Vette stinger hood look).
It also includes exclusive wheels (which look to us like the ones GM is using on next year's 2009 Z06). They are aluminum and measure 18 x 9.5-inch rims with 275/35ZR18 tires in the front, and 19 x 12-inch rims with 325/30ZR19 tires in the rear. This setup is said to break 1-g on the skid pad.
On this edition there is also a titanium-colored leather interior, 427-embroidered seats and floor mats, and custom Z06 door sill plates. They also say the "retiring Corvette plant manager" signs each armrest, or some kind of plaque, and while we could live without that, many may find it nice.

This edition comes with the 3LZ premium options package, which includes about everything except the "navigation system" option, which would add another $1,750 US, if you were so inclined. There are many advertising the price of this model being $13,000 higher than a standard Z06, but if you optioned a regular Z06 out to this level, the price difference is probably closer to the LE model being just $3,000 higher (than a similarly equipped Z06) . Total cost without the NAV system is about $85,000 US.

Many investors believe that this 427 Limited Edition model is one of those that might actually be a reasonable investment, as opposed to many "special" models that have no inherent investment potential.
The order code on this car is/ was Z44, and it was the 2nd special model in 2008. The other was the Indy 500 Pace Car replica.
Of course, this car carries on the Z06 0-60 mph performance of 3.7 seconds, quarter-mile times of 11.7 seconds at 125 mph, and top speeds of 198 mph.
