The Billy Boat Performance Exhaust company is a premier quality manufacturer that has been building systems for a variety of vehicles since 1989. They first showed up on our radar with the exhaust systems they build for the, famous and last generation, Porsche 911 (993) air cooled motors.
Of course, here, we are concerned with the C6 Corvette models, so the B&B exhaust systems available for the C6 will be either the Fusion, Bullet, or Route 66. Performance gains, quality construction, good looks, and exhaust tone are the main goals.
* The Fusion is a bi-modal exhaust, based on, and compatible with the Z06 NPP dual-mode exhaust, which is also now an option for the 2008 standard model Corvettes.

B&B also sells a Vacuum Control Kit which will make their bi-modal exhaust work with the other C6 models, which do not have the NPP dual-mode factory equipment exhaust system already installed.

The optional (for the 2008 C6) factory NPP dual-mode exhaust system includes new vacuum-operated mufflers similar to the ones that come standard on the Z06. At wide-open throttle, the two inboard pipes open via a butterfly valve. The system makes a robust sound under power, but remains quiet during normal driving. This system gives a 6 horsepower gain.
So, the B&B Fusion system will either will either improve upon the factory NPP dual-mode exhaust, or, with the vacuum module, will add dual-mode (or "bi-modal") exhaust where there was none before.

The B&B Fusion bi-modal exhaust has a more aggressive sound all the way around when compared to the factory system. The loud side of the exhaust sounds like their Bullet system, while the mild side sounds more like the Route 66 system.
* The Bullet is a T-304 stainless steel system with double walled 4" round or 4.5" oval tips. It is the most aggressive of the line with a deep muscle car sound (at all times). Up to an 18 horsepower gain is possible, with around 10 probably being the norm.

* The Route 66 system was designed to deliver a muscle car idle tone along with an overall true touring performance sound. In other words this is a more mellow sounding system, but the performance gains are similar to other systems of this design.
The Route 66 is available with oval or round tips.

For now, before you purchase any X-pipe type plumbing just research and make sure they deliver the sound you desire. Many people like the gurgling sound you hear when the throttle is released, and most X-pipe style aftermarket designs will reduce or eliminate this sound.
At this time (early 2009) most long tube headers are available for C6 models up to about the 2007 model year. Most specialty aftermarket part production generally runs about 2 years (maybe 1) behind the current model year.
