General Motors or GM has many brands. The Corvette, of course, is a Chevrolet, and Chevrolet is a General Motors (GM) brand. GM is the parent and Chevrolet is the child. A few of the other GM brands that may show up around the Corvettes are: Cadillac, Holden, Pontiac, GMC, and sometimes Buick.

So, for example, the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird were essentially the same cars dressed up differently. Also, today the Cadillac V series cars use many parts from the Corvette (or vice versa), especially as far as the engines are concerned.

GM has a long history with safety (see video below) and also with vehicles that are kind to the environment. Remember in 1990 GM made the first real marketing attempt on a zero emissions car that had been seen in over three decades. It was the EV1 and could be purchased at certain dealerships. Now they have what may finally be a real "winner" in the elusive environmental car market with the new Volt. Many Corvette owners have their Corvette as a hobby car and commute in a different type of vehicle all together.
